Class Description

Summary:

Feather – You will learn how to use the two embroidery techniques together to create beautiful feather design.
Please note that some prior experience of Tambour Beading and Goldwork techniques is required before taking this class.

Day one:

We will develop the tambour beading techniques, working with bugles, beads and sequins.  We will then develop the Goldwork side of the piece, beginning with the application of string padding.

Finally, we will practise stitching the gold and silver pearl purl to create the feather.

Day two:

We will then work on the following Goldwork techniques to complete the blades of the feather;

“or nue” – a shading of coloured threads covering a gold passing thread giving beautiful depth and contrast

Goldwork “point de bouclette” (loop stitch in gold work) giving the texture for the gold blades

Essing to create the main body of the feather

The aim of this class is to introduce a mix of the two embroidery techniques making them work together smoothly.

This class includes a kit with black fabric, blue glass beads and buggles, gold lined seed beads, sequins, very fine pearl purls (gold and silver), gold smooth purl, turquoise smooth purl, gold passing, blue embroidery threads and detailed instructions.

Please note that tambour hooks will be available to borrow or/and purchase during the class.

Please bring with you for the class: A round hoop, 8 or 10 inch (with a stand if you can, so that you can use both hands). If so, then wrapped with webbing around one circle to protect and maintain the tension of the fabric).

The class is pitched towards beginner students and the limited class size will allow you to develop at your own pace with plenty of one to one time with the tutor.
