Summary
Goldwork embroidery – In this class, you will learn the technique inspired by Louis XVI design. You will embroider with gold and black purls, passing thread and pearl purl using the techniques of padding, couching, cutwork and loop stitch to create the design.
We will begin by introducing the different types of paddings used in Goldwork which act as the foundation of the technique. We will practise using felt padding for the shapes and string padding for the linear work. We will then move onto stitching the gold passing onto the top of the felt padding and adding the pearl purl to create a finished edge.
Finally, we will practise stitching the pearl purl to create the shape of the leaves and how to stitch the essing with gold purl. We will also practise how to do the loops with black purl.
By the end of the class you will have learned skills such as applying different types of paddings as well as the basic stitches in gold work.
Included as part of the class is a complete kit with detailed instructions, black duchess satin, calico, felt, string padding, gold rough and smooth purl, gold passing, gold pearl purl, black rough purl, needles and wax.
The class will allow you to develop at your own pace, with the opportunity for one to one guidance from the tutor due to the limited class numbers.
You will need the additional equipment:
– a seated hoop 8 or 10 inch (with webbing around the top ring)
– an embroidery scissors
– pins
– pencil and rubber
– notepad
Recommended but Optional:
– goldwork scissors
– goldwork pad
A link to access the class will be send to you two weeks before the course start with instructions on how to access your course. You will need to download zoom and enter the details that you will receive.
The class can be recorded if all the participants (8 students per class maximum) agreed and it will be available to watch as many time as you like for 6 months.
