Summary
Initials – In this class, you will learn how to draw your initials, prepare the fabric, and stitching the initials. You will embroider with gold purl and pearl purl using the techniques of padding, stitching the pearl purl and cutwork to create the design. This design is pitched at an Intermediate level student who has knowledge of Goldwork but would like to improve.
We will begin by introducing how to draw your initials including how to interlock the letters to create a smooth design. We will transfer the design using prick and pounce techniques and draw them on the fabric.
The gold pearl purl will be applied all around the outlines to create a finished edge.
The bump padding will be stitched to create the foundation of the technique. It will be couched using multiple strings to create a different thickness. Students will learn how to stitch soft string padding included how to make smooth transition for the point.
Finally, we will practise how to stitch the essing with gold purl including the transitions where there is no padding.
By the end of the class you will have learned skills such as drawing your initials, preparing the fabric and stitching the monogram with goldwork.
Included as part of the class is a complete kit with detailed instructions, black duchess satin, calico, string padding, gold rough purl, gold pearl purl, needles and wax and prick and pounce powder to transfer the design.
The class will allow you to develop at your own pace, with the opportunity for one to one guidance from the tutor due to the limited class numbers.
You will need the additional equipment:
– a seated hoop 8 or 10 inch (with webbing around the top ring)
– two pairs of embroidery scissors (one to cut metal and one very sharp to cut the purl)
– pins
– pencil with a rubber at the end
– notepad
– Tracing paper
– white gel pen or white pencil
– goldwork pad
– plyers
Recommended but Optional:
– goldwork scissors
A link to access the class will be send to you two weeks before the course start with instructions on how to access your course. You will need to download zoom and enter the details that you will receive.
The class can be recorded if all the participants (8 students per class maximum) agreed and it will be available to watch as many time as you like for 6 months.
