Class Description
Summary
This goldwork class introduces you to the art of Goldwork including passing, stitching the pearl purl, essing and creating the intricate flower. The gold passing will be stitch first. You will also learn how to plunge and finish the passing thread. The pearl purl will be initiate including how to create sharp angles.
You will stitch the silver grid next with smooth silver purl. We will create a flower to define the centre with loop stitch in purls.Finally, you will learn how to create the essing to add depth into the intricate pattern.
This class is aimed at someone who has knowledge of embroidery but would like to learn or improve their goldwork techniques.
Included as part of the class is a complete kit with detailed instructions, gold passing, gold pearl purl, gold smooth and rough purl, silver smooth purl, beeswax, different size needles, callico (backing fabric), white or black satin fabric and two Gutermann bobbin thread (White and yellow).
The class will allow you to develop at your own pace, with the opportunity for one to one guidance from the tutor due to the limited class numbers.
The Elizabethan border will need to be finished at home and I will make my recorded class videos available for 6 months complimentary. In addition to the in person class and the technique learned, you will be able to watch the videos as many time as you like 🙂
You will need the additional equipment:
– a seated hoop 8 or 10 inch (with webbing around the top ring)
– a goldwork scissors
– an embroidery scissors
– a goldwork pad
– pins
– pencil and rubber
– notepad
PLEASE NOTE that for this design you have the option between a white or a black background (see pictures).
Venue details: Wheelchair accessible and Free parking. Please note that it is a remote location and I recommend that you bring your lunch. There is a small kitchen for tea and coffee.
